Every year we try to make our Christmas cakes extra special; because we know this is the time of year where our customers want something that not only impresses their guests, but also tastes amazing and steals the spotlight. This year our Christmas Chocolate Mint Cake is the most luxurious item on our Christmas menu, and to top it off, we’ve added an exquisite handmade festive wreath that sits regally on top of the cake.
Did you know that each wreath will be hand made by our friends at Flowerheart? You’ll remember our Mother’s Day cake and the magical flower crown that they made for each cake… well we decided to call on their expertise again for the most wonderful time of the year.
We chatted to Flowerheart owner Marlize about what it takes to make a wreath, and this is what she had to say:
HOW DO YOU MAKE EACH WREATH?
First I start by dividing each little branch and I tie them together to form the shape. This is a delicate job because I have to slowly shape each branch to make it look natural and not forced – the authentic shape of the branch is always my guide. When I’m happy with the shape of the wreath, I gently add the pine cones with a glue gun.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE ONE WREATH?
It usually takes about 30 – 45 minutes to make each wreath. We do everything by hand, and we love working with flowers and greenery.
WHAT OTHER FLOWERS AND LITTLE EXTRAS DO YOU USE IN THE WREATH?
To make this wreath special, we also add Conifer greenery, and indigenous fynbos that include “Slangbos”, Silver Brunia, and cute little pine cones to give it a traditional festive look.
HOW CAN OUR CUSTOMERS KEEP THE WREATH FRESH FOR CHRISTMAS?
The wreath will stay beautiful for quite a while with a simple spray of water. Don’t over do it – just a little mist of water is fine.
